BROWNDOWNCROWN eats BRUNCH

Posted in BeyonceWouldLoveIt, Fat-Tastic Brunch, Mo'Nique on January 9, 2010 by browndowncrown

Brunch is our favorite meal of the day because it includes ALL THE MEALS OF THE DAY and always features bacon and champagne. So how excited were we when our hottt SF friends were organizing a FAT-TASTIC Brunch?! Seems like such a good idea we asked if we could invite all the fatties on BROWNDOWNCROWN and they said the more people there are the more chances everyone has of making out! See ya on Sunday! We leave you with BROWNDOWNCROWN QUEEN, Mo’Nique — and some of HER ideas about it all!

Jenna Riot – BDC & the TGD

Posted in Jenna Riot, TGD, Tyra Banks, world takeover on January 9, 2010 by browndowncrown

Jenna Riot is now the new face of Faith21! With your help (and hella tween voters), she was hand picked by Mia Tyler for Forever 21’s new plus size line. Forever21 (or as some folks refer to it, Forever31) is hella religious which means the fact that they picked a brown queer femme fatty to represent their new line is one step closer to BDC’s TGD – TOTAL GLOBAL DOMINATION. If we can slip past the Christians, we can do anything! She is flying down to LA for a shopping spree and photo shoot — may we suggest Jenna Riot in a sexy outfit as a DOUBLE DOUBLE ANIMAL STYLE – chowing down on some In N Out and covered in their secret sauce between two extra large man patties? Regardless — Faith21’s current model, Whitney Thompson, is the first plus size model to win America’s Next Top Model and has been quoted as saying, “people should look like she does rather than skin-and-bones, which is disgusting and sends a bad message to people everywhere.” We couldn’t agree more! We just hope Whitney introduces Jenna to BDC Superstar TYRA BANKS so she can make a special guest appearance on BDCTV in a fat suit so we can really give her something to cry about! Congrats Jenna — now that you are the chosen one its time to show the world what BDC is all about! Click here to check out the other winners and what Mia Tyler had to say about them all.

EMERGENCY – help BDC kids get TOYS for XMAS!

Posted in BeyonceWouldLoveIt, beyonce borrowed it, jorge portillo, toys on December 18, 2009 by browndowncrown

The Mission SRO Collaborative is looking for toy donations for the 100 kids that live in and out of the single room occupancy hotels in the mission district. These are little brown kids who might not otherwise be able to afford toys for the holidays and BDC superstar Jorge Portillo (Program Coordinator for the M.SRO.Collab) is organizing an EMERGENCY TOY DRIVE to get them the toys that will put smiles on their faces this year.

the deets:
what: Mission SRO Collaborative TOY EMERGENCY
who: toys for the 100 little brown kids that live in single room occupancy hotels with their families
when: they need to get the toys by this MONDAY DECEMBER 21st, 3PM.
where: drop off the toys at 938 Valencia St. (btwn 20th and 21st – you don’t even have to leave the mission, hipster!) from 9am – 6pm or make special arrangements with Jorge Portillo (415-282-6209 ext 16, 12, or 19) and jorge@dscs.org
why: cuz these kids are off the radar and don’t have access to a lot of the services provided to homeless families.

THEY NEED THE GOOD STUFF! AGE APPROPRIATE GIFTS FOR KIDS 5-18. ACTION FIGURES, DOLLS, GAMES, PUZZLES, ART SUPPLIES, BUILDING TOYS ARE SOME GOOD EXAMPLES!

We asked Jorge some questions about the toy drive and Mission SRO Collaborative and this is what he had to say:

BDC:What is the mission of the Mission SRO Collaborative?
Jorge: Though its currently being revised our current Mission Statement is:
The Mission SRO Collaborative provides tenants rights counseling, organizing leadership opportunities, case management, safe sex/substance abuse outreach services and community space to tenants of Single Room Occupancy hotels in San Francisco’s Mission District. We work together to empower single adult residents and families to defend their rights and organize themselves to improve their lives and living conditions.

BDC: Where do these kids live that will be getting the toys?

Jorge: The kids we work with live inside the hotels. Until recently the families I work with were considered Homeless under federal guidelines (I say until recently because the federal govt. just passed legislation removing families living in SRO’s from the federal definition of homelessness which will undoubtedly have a detrimental effect on their ability to receive social services). Usually these families live in rooms that are no larger than about 8×10, share this space with 4 or 5 other people, have no kitchens, and share bathroom facilities with the variety of folks also living in those buildings. The buildings are in (pardon my francois) usually pretty shitty condition; abestos ridden, plagued with pests, unkept, and under exploitative management.

BDC: Why is it important to donate toys to the M.SRO.Colab?

Jorge: I think the most important reason is because so many of our kids are off the radar. They don’t stay in shelters or live on the streets (though they might as well) so they dont benefit from services for homeless youth, their parents can barely afford to keep the meager roofs they currently have over their heads much less buy them a gift, because they come from traditionally uber- marginalized communities; recently arrived immigrants, monolingual households, single parent homes, etc… and really can’t participate in afterschool programs or other programs where they might get gifts, and because we are really the only organization serving these amazing little buds.

Text a tween to vote for Jenna Riot!

Posted in BrownDownCrownTV, Jenna Riot, MTV, on demand, tween, world takeover on November 24, 2009 by browndowncrown

Jenna Riot helps BrownDownCrown takeover the World

Sometimes you read this blog and you see me write about how BrownDownCrown will be a household name and how we’re infiltrating your TVs thru on demand propaganda or interviews with MTV gayz and how this is all a part of our grand scheme of ultimate world takeover and you may think to yourself, I dont know about these BDC kids they just seem crazy they can’t take over the world.

Well, yes we can. Never underestimate the power of hungry brown people with fame and glory being dangled in front of them like a deep fried american cheese taco wrapped in bacon served with a side of sour cream.

BDCTV’s sexy co-host Jenna Riot has decided to use her world takeover talents to infiltrate the fashion industry! What better way to do that but to become Forever 21’s poster girl. Once they accept her as their own she will preach to them the values of BrownDownCrown and our household name recognition will soon become a reality.

Ms. Riot is now one of the finalists in the Faith 21 (F21’s plus size line) ‘Most Stylish Gal Search‘. Not only will she win $500 (which is a lot of Popeyes!) but she will be flown out to LA for a photoshoot and meet the foxxxy Mia Tyler (daughter of lead singer of Aerosmith). BrownDownCrown and rockstar go hand in hand so you see – this plan is almost foolproof.

BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP! VOTE FOR JENNA RIOT EVERY DAY ON THE FOREVER 21 WEBSITE TO ENSURE SHE WINS SO BROWNDOWNCROWN CAN TAKE OVER THE WORLD!

click here to vote — you have to register yr email address — you get one vote every day until December 7th. Tell your friends. Yr frenemies. And the tweens — whatever u do make sure you text a tween to vote for Jenna Riot.

WhiteTightRight + Nerrrd Alert = Will Phillips

Posted in WhiteTightRight, nerd alert on November 24, 2009 by browndowncrown

WOW!!  10yo Will Phillips from West Fork, Arkansas gives me hope that we’re not just living in urban gentrified gay bubbles of liberal hipsterism and that real people in all kinds of communities actually care about something other than themselves.  He decided one day he didn’t want to recite the pledge of allegiance because he didn’t believe there was true ‘liberty and justice for all’.  He says this specific to gay marriage but in his CNN interview cites racism and sexism that exists in society too.  Way to go baby nerd – you are truly WHITETIGHTRIGHT!  He will probably own some high hipster internet social networking site by the time he’s 16 with a starring role in a Spike Jones movie.

click here to watch the interview with him on CNN
The interview is hilariously mind blowing — from the way he talks and the words he chooses to his smokin hot dad. Its also good to know that kids nowadays are still using the word gaywad and I’m excited for the day that Will realizes its like so super cool to be one. Maybe BDC should homosexually educate CNN anchors — cuz the guy interviewing him literally asked, “What’s a gaywad?” Did I mention Jay Phillips, the smokin hot dad?

BDC chats with the GOSSIP

Chris Sutton and a packed house for the Gossip Show

…. well, sort of. For all purposes we were going to chat with the Gossip, and we did, but once we got there it was a reunion of old and new friends, dancing till we fell over, a crowd surfer (who will remain nameless) scaring the shit out of us and then after party at Honey Sundays with gaggles of gayboys surrounding lead singer, Beth Ditto, on all sides. With all the chaos backstage and afterward all the questions we wanted to ask Beth were lost but we did get to ask her the most important BDC question of all time: Who would you want to wrap in bacon? read on for the answer….

– from our vantage point we could see the front row of sexy brown gayboys singing along to every song like happy drag queens in Reno and that made BDC fill up with joy.
– also met another group of brown gayboys afterward (all of whom had a gay job like florist, stylist and colorist) who came all the way from Fresno to see the show! yah!
– between the Bikini Kill mash up, Queen sing along and Tina Turner cover, the Gossip definitely blew the crowd away and remain one of the best live shows EVER
– we’re so excited for the addition of Chris Sutton as bassist to the band!
– at one point we were talking with TWO of BDC’s Bacon Wrapped Icons at once (Beth Ditto from the Gossip and Andy from Hercules and Love Affair) and that just really was a lot of sexy bacon wrappers in one spot
– When asked who she’d want to wrap in bacon Beth didn’t skip a beat when responding: Lydia Lunch.

here are some pictures from the show… and some videos we found on the internet:

Erase Errata = WhiteTightRight

Posted in Brontez, Courtney Trouble, Don't Bomb The Moon, Erase Errata, Fabulosa Fest, Homo A Go Go, Team Dresch, WhiteTightRight, younger lovers on September 25, 2009 by browndowncrown

BDC is ready to party with Erase Errata this weekend! EE has always been one of our favorite bands ever since we were baby gayz in Olympia, WA jamming to their music in stinky punk houses. In addition to their performance at the Don’t Bomb the Moon Fest this Saturday in SF, lead singer Jenny Hoyston will be a part of a panel of folks the night before at El Rio for Funtime (including BDC’s favorite porn princess, Courtney Trouble and Bacon Wrapped Icon Brontez from Gravy Train!!! and The Younger Lovers). Wow — very sexy! BDC was so excited we asked Jenny Hoyston to answer some WhiteTightRight questions for us about EE, playing with Team Dresch, Fabulosa Fest and pervy bacon wrapping.

BDC: Tell us about the Erase Errata reunion! How was it playing again at Homo a Go Go? What can we look forward to for EE’s near future?
Erase Errata plays several shows each year. They are usually “fly-ins” to events like EuroPride or college shows so we’ve been out of the San Francisco radar for the last few years. It felt great getting together and playing for the hometown crowd during HAGG. We just finished Pacific Northwest dates with Team Dresch and began a recording new material with Christina Files in her Portland studio. We don’t feel pressure to finish the recording in any time frame. Erase Errata is an ongoing project amid our busy lives.

On Saturday EE is playing the ‘Don’t Bomb the Moon’ event and i have heard you talk publicly about this before. Why is this important to you? What can we expect to happen at this event?
JH: Jarrett Mitchell, who founded don’tbombthemoon.com, planned this free concert/demonstration in San Francisco to follow up on other demos he’s done in Louisville, KY, Chicago, Portland, etc. There will be lots of bands playing from 4pm on and Jarrett’s amazing anti-lunar bombing art will be on display (and for sale) at the event. It will be the place to be this Saturday.

BDC: This year I attended Fabulosa Fest! How did you get involved with organizing it and will it be happening again next year?
JH: Fabulosa Fest will be happening again mid July 2010. We tripled our numbers this year and have some really big names lined up for next year’s festival so we are looking for a new property to hold it on. The swimming situation is obviously important in our locale search since everyone loves to stay cool in the water between performances. I got involved in planning Fabulosa with my partners (El Rio owner) Dawn Huston and Judea Eden because I love planning fundraisers and concerts but was getting bored just doing shows in bars and clubs. It is so nice to create queer feminist space and the participants have brought the most amazing energy to the event every year. I’m so proud.

BDC: How do you like living in Portland? What’s the music scene like there and any Portland bands u recommend listening to?
JH: I like it up here. I can afford to live in a house, which is such a change for me from Bay Area warehouse squatting. I come down to San Francisco every other month so I still feel in touch with music and art there. I’ve put on shows here for Lovers and Forsorcerers and a few other bands but I honestly don’t go out to shows as much as I used to.

BDC: Tell me about the event at El Rio on Friday. Will you be performing?
JH: Friday at El Rio there will be a live talk show. The hilarious host will be interviewing Kaia Wilson and I together about going to the Jerry Jeff Walker concert the previous night. Kaia and I will be performing a Jerry Jeff Walker song together during the interview. Courtney from NoFauxxx.com and Brontez from GravyTrain!!!/Younger Lovers are the other guests. It should be wild!

BDC: What was it like playing with Team Dresch!!
JH: Playing with Team Dresch was an honor. Their music means so much to me. I completely retreated into it when I was younger. I stood beside the stage during both of the shows we did together and sang along – I know every word. the Portland show was a little more wild and fun. I took my shirt off during “Remember Who You Are” and a few others followed suit.

BDC: Most importantly — if you could wrap any musician in bacon, alive or dead, who would it be and why?
JH: Ugh! You are obviously a complete pervert! I would not personally wrap anyone in bacon. I just barfed reading this. Oh, here it comes again…

BDC hearts La Chica Boom

Posted in BrownDownCrown, Kaleidoscope, La Chica Boom on September 23, 2009 by browndowncrown
La Chica Boom

La Chica Boom

The first time we met La Chica Boom she fisted a piñata in a full dominatrix outfit and BDC knew we were in love with her. She is a Bay Area performance artist who is so brown she holds the title Ms Gay Latina 2005 AND 2006 (hey La Chica Boom can you help BDC get that title for 2010?)! She is also the founder of Kaleidoscope, the Third
Annual People of Color Cabaret
happening in San Francisco on September 26th!

The lineup looks gaymazing this year and there are even pre show workshops on September 25th and 26th!! Great Brown Minds must think alike because the same day BDC was going to get a hold of La Chica Boom for an interview she contacted us!

BDC: Are you BrownDownCrown?
LCB: Yes, I am BrownDownCrown, because I am La Chica Boom and am hella brown, down and I certainly wear a Swarvosky covered crown! I’ve been working actively in queer communities of color being “brown and down” for about 10 years now. I’ve been organizing with communities of color to destabilize the white heteropatriarchy by day and by night I seduce audiences with my witty ethnic drag and burlesque performance. I am from the El Paso/Juarez border and have been weaving my cultural, political and sexual identity through alternative dance, theatre, performance art, burlesque, clowning and street performance across North America. In the past I’ve worked with a broad range of movements including the prison abolition, anti-rape, domestic violence, and reproductive justice movements with an emphasis on queer and sex worker of color issues.

BDC: Tell me about yr upcoming show and workshops! Can anyone attend?
LCB: Upcoming Show: Have you gone to the website www.kaleidoscopecabaret.com, it is beautiful! It has a video of the past year’s show and the bios/pics of all performers this year. The show is open to everyone! It’s first of its kind in burlesque, in that the show, Kaleidoscope, The Third Annual People of Color Cabaret show-cases performers of color. I bring down men, women, and transgender performers from all over the country each year to showcase a broad range of performances that include drag, burlesque, song, and aerial art and they promise to be erotic, sexy, and witty.

BDC: What can we expect to see at the show?
LCB: This year Toni Elling will be joining us. She is 84 years old now and hella amazing! We will honor her for paving the way for burlesque performers of color today, she is one of burlesque living legends.

There will also be workshops taught by all the pros in the show! Some are FREE! Join us September 25th and 26th from 10am-4p at the Mission Cultural Center for an array of pre-show workshops. Explore your understanding of desire and take one of many classes: The art of BIG burlesque, Masculinity in the world of Burlesque, POC burlesque history, Exotification and Race Representation, Saucy Choreography, Burlesque on a Budget, How do I look?: Drag/stage make-up application, Pasty-making, tassle-twirling, Oh My!, Glove Removal, and other tricks of the trade from the pros.

BDC: What is one of the highlights you are looking forward to seeing?
LCB:I am looking forward to seeing Orchid Mei work her special fans, she is definitely one my favorite classic performers! I am also looking forward to seeing all kinda poc’s in the crowd! I love looking at at their faces while they watch the show. Major satisfaction!

BDC: What will you be performing at the show?
LCB: I will probably be jacking off on tacos with Tapatio! Because I am a Tortillera (mexican slang for queer or lesbian woman) fo sho!

BDC: Why is it important to have an all poc burlesque show?
LCB: It’s important to have a POC show because although burlesque is an amazing art, it has traditionally used our bodies as exotic props and our images for profit. The show is about the politics of a people of color performance movement, about how performers of color redefine and shape our liberation through striptease and cabaret arts. The show is a platform for us to reclaim our images, our racialized sexualities, and to challenged cooptation and the appropriation of our bodies and images. I hope that the show will cast some light on the knowledge, actions, and transformations that pertain to performance, race-sex positivity, and politicize and enrich the neo-burlesque movement.

BDC: If you could wrap any performance artist in bacon — who would it be and why?
LCB:If I could wrap any artist in bacon it would definitely have to be Jesusa Rodriguez, queer Mexican performance artist. Because she’d probably take that bacon and shove it up her ass and then make it a really compelling performance art piece!

GOSSIP makes BDC want to eat Fried Chicken

Posted in BrownDownCrownTV, beth ditto, chris sutton, fried chicken, gossip, rocktober, truffle shuffle on September 22, 2009 by browndowncrown

The Gossip recently performed live on the Jools Holland show (guess its some cool show in Europe?) and it made us love them SO much more. And this is why:

1.) they are now performing with bassist Chris Sutton who has been in so many bands we can’t list them all but we like him best in C.O.C.O. and Dub Narcotic Sound System.
2.) Hannah’s pompadour is so big it reaches the sky
3.) Beth’s first outfit in the clip below is hella gay rainbow peacock meets Colonel Sanders and if thats not punk high fashion I don’t know what is. BDC likes anything that reminds us of fried chicken.
4.) their music inspires us to truffle shuffles all the way to Popeyes!

Dear Gossip — BrownDownCrown can’t wait for you to come back to San Francisco in Rocktober… won’t you please let us buy you some Chubby Hubby and do an interview for BDCTV?? love, BrownDownCrown
